About Steve James
Below some more background on Steve James, his business and the family's involvement in the business.
Steve shifted to Te Anau Downs in 1979 and worked on the Station until 1983 when together with Simon Aspinall, started Aspinall and James Contracting making small conventional bales of hay mainly for Lands and Survey.
Kerri worked in the Lands and Survey/Landcorp office from 1983 -1987 in Te Anau. They married in 1985 and had two daughters Shelley and Katie.
In 2000, Steve took over the family farm on Sinclair Road and we have since purchased a neighbouring property for sheep and deer with some cattle.
Aspinall and James continued to grow and expand and we offered a full range of cultivation, full contract round 5x4 bales of hay and 4 x 4 balage.
In 2006, we rebranded to Steve James Contracting and have continued to grow and expand. This coincided with Kerri and Steve taking over motels and shifting into Te Anau.
Our daughter Shelley and her husband Kane came back from Australia in 2008. Kane is in partnership and runs the Direct Drilling side of the business, along with running their Fencing and Ag Spraying business. Shelley can be found driving tractors; she is also our Health & Safety contact, administration and manages the motels in our absence.
Our youngest daughter Katie and her husband Nick Fraser, in 2016 came home from Blenheim, where they were the Stock Manager at Tyntesfield Estate to manage our sheep, beef and deer farm. They also own and operate their own tailing contracting business along with a Sheep Conveyer and Sheep Dipping business, mostly within the Te Anau Basin.
